I’m truly delighted to share that my father’s book Pon My
Puff was recently featured in the Newbury Weekly News under their
Arts and Entertainment section, in a piece titled Quest to Reprint Father’s
Book.
This autobiographical novel captures the childhood of Peter
Lansley, who was raised by his grandparents on the Isle of Wight during the
1920s. Beyond his personal story, the book paints a vivid portrait of village
life at that time, bringing to life figures such as the milkman, the shoemaker,
the butcher, and even his nursery teacher.
Through Charles Lansley’s dedicated research into his late
father’s manuscript, many of the real characters, homes, and places of interest
have been identified. The book shares moments of humor, warmth, and discovery,
from Stir Up Sunday traditions and Christmas memories to childhood adventures
with his friend Victoria.
Pon My Puff offers both the charm of a coming-of-age
story and a window into rural English life when oil lamps lit homes, steam
trains ruled travel, and a five-year-old could walk safely through the village
alone.
